Toy Story 3 only just opened in the UK last week so went along with wife & daughter on Thursday. All loved it (2nd favourite of 2010 after Inception).
As one of your agnostic (me) & atheist (wife) listeners not offended at all by your last podcast. Totally agree with your views on the 'militant' atheist who annoy me just as much as the Christian fundamentalists or charlatans you get on certain religious stations pumping viewers full of fear & prejudice or taking advantage of people's faith to line their pockets.
I'm reminded of preparations for our Indian wedding a few years ago when we were watching a video of my wife's Aunt & Uncle's wedding where two of my 'militant' atheist relatives spent the entire time mocking, making nasty 'jokes' & rubbishing the entire ceremony & the Hindu religion in general (whilst my Hindu relatives were in the same room watching) & being absolutely disgusted in them not respecting other people's right to a different 'faith' to theirs & the total hypocrisy in their actions. In that they'd be the first people to moan about religious fundamentalists expecting everybody to think/act like them yet they didn't respect other people's right to have different views/live a different way to themselves.

A quick correction: In this episode, I attribute the quote "Where's your Messiah now?" to the film The Bible, when it was in fact spoken by Edward G. Robinson in The Ten Commandments. I regret this error.

Oh, I thought you were referencing Chief Wiggum who once asked Ned:"Where's your Messiah now, Flanders?" (in "Homer Loves Flanders")

They actually referenced in a couple of times in the series. In the Bible episode, when David kills Goliath, Wiggum, as a centurion or something, arrests Bart and asks, "Where's your Messiah now?"

I got a lot out of Toy Story 3 when I saw it, but the idea of Lotso being threatened by the presence of faith in others was something that didn't occur to me until hearing this episode. So I wanted to say thanks for helping me enjoy the film on yet another level.
I also wanted to chime in as someone who has gone from Christian to atheist to agnostic and back toward Christian - At no point in my spiritual journey have I found the attitude that anyone with slightly different beliefs must be converted or punished anything less than offensive. The Lotsos of the world, no matter what belief they're trying to force on others, give their peers a bad name, doing more harm to their cause than good.

As I mentioned in episode 30, if your belief has any real weight to it, you'll be able to convince people of its legitimacy simply by living out its principles every day and talking about why you believe it. The best way to get people to not take you seriously is to try to force them to think what you think.
