Hey Tyler, and everyone else. My name is Nick. I'm 17 years old and a senior in high-school. I will be attending the University of Tampa in the Fall as a film major. I've loved movies for a long time, and in the last 2-3 years I've really taken an interest in them as an artistic medium. I've got too many favorite films to list but just off the top of my head, some are: Citizen Kane, Godfather 1 and 2 (2 is better ,) Blade Runner, Memento and There Will Be Blood... I've also been a Christian since a very early age, therefore, More Than One Lesson is the perfect podcast for me! Keep up the good work Tyler, both MTOL and BP are fantastic

I am a university professor who discovered the wonderful world of podcasts when I got my iPod (last in the family to get one!) at Christmas '07.
I a interested in the creative arts and in movies, etc ... but I am definitely an "outsider" -- but I like smart conversations, and I like discusing Christian themes in mainstream culture, and how the two worlds (art and faith) can and should influence each other.

As the audience for MTOL is relatively small (especially compared to Battleship Pretension), I think that the membership to this forum is going to be pretty small for a while. Nonetheless, thanks, guys, for joining. I look forward to having some good conversations with you.

I am Nathan Smart and I am a Christian comedy nerd. It's rare but real.

Not only are you a comedy nerd, sir, but you have the distinction of being pretty much the only consistently outspoken Christian on aspecialthing.com. That has to be an almost daily punishment.

Hello everyone. I'm Roy. I graduated with a theatre degree from a Christian university in the south a few months ago, and I've been listening to BP for a couple of years and MTOL since its inception. I've been really interested in the intersection between faith and art for quite awhile, especially since taking a class at university called Theatre and the Christian. I'm here to discuss that intersection with others who are interested.

Hello! My name is Grace, and I am 17 summers young. My family and I have been missionaries for basically all our lives; I was born into a Christian family. I'd listened to Battleship Pretension for a while when Mr. Tyler Smith went off and made this little gem. I love films, and I'm excited for more episodes of MTOL!

My Name is Raymond W. (pronounced double-u) and more than one lesson has been awesome for me. I've been listening to podcasts in general for about 2 years now and was referred to bp and mtol through /slashfilm. I got so freaking excited when I heard dave chen say that you have one of the only christian movie podcasts on the internet and I quickly flocked to your site and dove right in. I'm a 21 year old christian and film is my passion and life calling and destiny/what I was put on the earth to do. The church can sometimes be quite constrictive and condemming in their views on films which I guess would be okay if they made good films themselves which they do not. Its nice to have a christian who love films and is knowledgeable about the fact that every film no matter the subject matter can teach and inspire (well maybe not porn but I guess it can show you what not to do with your life so there). Since I've been listening, your show has been a great help to me. I am challenged, entertained, enlightened, and personally and spritually fufilled. I just want Thank you Mr. Smith. Please keep doing what your doing. Your podcast is like a light on a hill and more people will come. Like my pastor said to me once, Dont despise small beginnings. Oh and congratulations on your wedding anniversary. Have fun celebrating in romantic.....Manteno ? Well what ever works for you

Oh and congratulations on your wedding anniversary. Have fun celebrating in romantic.....Manteno ? Well what ever works for you Manteo is a quiet little town in the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. It is relaxing, laid back, and picturesque. It's a lot like the town of Amity in Jaws, but without the killer shark. While I could definitely live without the humidity, the place itself is really wonderful. If you're ever looking for a truly restful vacation, I highly recommend it. See? Isn't that beautiful?

Oh. Okay. It kind of has that martha's vineyard vibe going on. Didn't mean to be a skeptical of it. Its just that when you name the most romantic places on earth, (paris, italy, new york in the fall) that manteno usually doesn't show up on the list. But you know, maybe that adds to its charm for you guys because its not such a exploited place as the others are. So have fun blazing new trails.

Hi everybody! Been very lazy & copied & pasted my introduction from the BP forum, so if you've already been over there to read my ramblings please stop reading now
Name: Tony
Age: 33
Home: Shoeburyness, Essex, England (35 miles from London)
Occupation: Househusband. Former stock manager for large independent record store (yes it was very similar to High Fidelity).
Marital Status: 5th Wedding Anniversary on January 5th. Had 2 weddings – English civil wedding in 16th century country house & an Indian Wedding.
Children: One 5 year old daughter called Xia.
Brief physical description: Short, balding, chubby, bearded, bespectacled & very hairy chested.
Favourites:
TV Shows: Frasier, The Simpsons, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office (UK version), Extras, QI, Have I Got News For You, I Claudius, The Royle Family, Top Gear, Planet Earth, The Thick Of It, King Of The Hill.
Movies: LOTR Trilogy, The Empire Strikes Back, The Godfather 1 & 2, Citizen Kane, The Battle of Algiers, Manhattan, Rear Window, Lawrence of Arabia, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Fantasia, Sunset Blvd., All The President's Men.
Music: Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Kate Bush, U2, Duke Ellington, Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam, Steely Dan.
Computer games: Social gamer, Wii sports at family/friend gatherings. Used to be Summer & Winter Games on the Commodore 64 in the 80’s.
Sport: Love watching all Sports when it’s a big international event (i.e. The Olympics, Soccer World Cup). Play cricket, tennis, table-tennis, snooker, darts, pool & bowling.
Turn Ons: Cuddling, big TV’s, funny women, drinking beer/chatting with friends on a hot summers day, watching old black & white movies on rainy days, playing in the snow, not working at weekends/public holidays, ice-cream, country walks, the natural beauty of our planet.
Turn Offs: Stupidity, greed, intolerance, religious fundamentalism, narcissism, the worship of talentless celebrities, Simon Cowell, daytime telly, Michael Bay, ‘comedies’ starring Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller & Adam Sandler.
No idea how I stumbled across Battleship Pretension but been listening for the last couple of years. Love the interplay between Tyler & David on any subject (enjoy the top of the show banter just as much as the main film discussion) & my only complaint is that guys seem constantly worried about going on too long whilst I'm always very happy for them to prattle on for longer (but maybe that's just me). Also really enjoy Tyler's More Than One Lesson podcast despite not being religious (give it a try non-believers).
Have no great personal talents for anything & never really had any work/financial ambitions. Very happy to plod along & spend as much quality time with my wife/daughter/family/friends as possible or doing voluntary charity/community work with my best friend – the local Vicar.
Beyond a big TV, a comfy sofa & bed (& a little home to house them in), not greatly interested in material things. Just collect DVD’s (& still some VHS) from charity shops/boot sales/cheap on Amazon.
That’s about it I think. Feel free to ask me anything you like (well, within reason).

Hello everyone. My name's Chris, but I've been answering to "filmbuff" for more than a decade so either one works.
I'm a Denver-based filmmaker and lover of movies. I'm lucky enough that my day job (which is actually a night shift) is editing video, so I get to earn my money doing what I love while still finding time to work on less profitable but more creatively satisfying projects in my off time. Plus I have a long commute, which is great for podcast-listening.
I was raised Episcopalian, fell out of it in high school, and found myself having the urge to start going to church again late last year. I'm still figuring some things out spiritually, but I know I can't call myself an atheist anymore, and I feel better about life on the Sundays I attend services than I do on the ones I sleep in.
So that covers movies and faith, the parts that directly relate to the podcast, so here's the rest: I've been married just over four years, and we have a wonderful two-year-old daughter. I stayed home with her for the first year, toward the end of which I realized the at-home parent lifestyle wasn't good for either of us (she wasn't getting enough time with other kids, I wasn't getting enough time with other adults). I decided to go back to school to complete my Bachelor's in film & video production, shortly before circumstances conspired that required me to go back to work. So now I'm working full-time, in school part-time, freelancing on local movies, going to church, and being a husband & father. Occasionally I find time to sleep.

I'm not sure if you've found a specific church to attend consistently, but, if you haven't, I have several friends that live in Denver. I could find out what they recommend.

We found a church that we're very happy with, even if after moving a few months ago it's now across town from us. If we ever decide to seek out something closer I'll be sure to post here for recommendations.

I'd love to see some of your work. Is there a way I can watch some of it? I've got a youtube channel that I currently use to show potential employers samples of my work: www.youtube.com/user/ChrisWard16Everything on there is something I worked on as at least director of photography or editor, and in most cases producer. So far it's all shorts, but the first feature that I've worked on as DP is in post-production. It will be starting the "submit to every festival under the sun and hope someone takes it" process in early 2011.
