Well, today marks the release of the movie that many say will save the summer (both financially and critically): Christopher Nolan's Inception. What did you guys think about it?

Honestly, it was very good. Not the second coming like everybody says it was. Really in my opinion it wasn't that much better than the prestige. And If I hear one more person call Nolan the next Kubrick I gonna slap somebody. I'm sorry but Batman Begins or Memento or Insomnia do not in any way measure up to Spartacus, The Shining, and 2001: A Space Oddessy.

This response is late but I think The Prestige to be a better film than Inception and the former in my opinion is a little Kubrickian. The shot of the wooden box in the ballroom reminds me of the sparse, restrained nature of 2001.

Perhaps people associate the very deliberate- some would say "cold"- execution of Nolan's films to that of Kubrick's. Beyond that, though, I'm not really sure what the connection is.
